Passenger Transportation Business Unit
The Passenger Transportation Business Unit carried out systematic work in 2014 to expand the types of services offered and improve the quality and attractiveness of railway transportation for passengers.
In 2014, long-haul transportation via Russian Railways infrastructure was used by 103.1 mln passengers A decrease of 6.9% compared with 2013
In 2014, suburban transportation via Russian Railways infrastructure was used by 967.2 mln passengers A decrease of 0.2% compared with 2013
In 2014, high-speed transportation via Russian Railways infrastructure was used by 3.9 mln passengers An increase of 2.5% compared with 2013
Growth in high-speed passenger transportation in 2014 totalled 3.9 % vs. 2013
Total railway passenger turnover via Russian Railways infrastructure decreased 7.0% to 128.8 bln passenger km in 2014. A decline in passenger turnover was seen both in long-haul travel (9.0%) as well as suburban traffic (0.5%). Only the high-speed passenger transportation segment demonstrated positive dynamics in 2014 with growth of 3.9% compared with 2013.
A total of 1,070.3 mln passengers were transported in 2014, down 0.9% from 2013. In particular, the number of passengers travelling long-haul fell 6.9%, while the number of suburban passengers declined 0.2%.
